Inside the Ivory Towers: Competitive Intelligence for Law Schools
American Association of Law Libraries (2016)
  • Darin K. Fox
Abstract
The Great Recession prompted many changes in the legal profession. In law schools, declining applicant pools, shrinking budgets, curricular innovation, the rise of big data, evolving job markets, increased use of technology, and rapidly changing libraries are just a few of the reasons that law schools are behaving more like businesses today. Law schools are constantly looking for ways to identify opportunities, streamline their operations, make informed management decisions, innovate, and adapt to the changing needs of the legal profession. Law schools and law libraries need to understand their place in local, regional, and national markets. Competitive intelligence (CI) is a process that includes the collection, analysis, and transformation of information into intelligence so organizations can manage the future. This program will explore the CI needs of law schools, deans, and directors. The speakers will identify and demonstrate the major data and news sources for information about law schools and how this information can be compiled into readily accessible reports for use by law school administrators
