Race, Representation, Resistance: Cultural Criticism in the Digital Age
DePaul University (2013)
  • Daniel McNeil, Carleton University
Abstract
This symposium investigates how contemporary critics and creative artists have been inspired by the moral criticism of activist-intellectuals who struggled for civil and human rights in the twentieth century. It features three speakers (Lewis Gordon, Francesca Royster, and Armond White) who deepen our interest in arts and culture; reveal new meanings and perspectives; expand our sense of culture; confront our assumptions about value and taste; and sharpen our ability to respond to cultural texts.
