Abstract
At this lecture I spoke to rural community college students, over 90 percent of them first-generation Latinos, about the nature of reality. I used the metaphors of quantum mechanics, probabilities, and the observer to deliver what I hope was an encouraging message that would motivate them to pursue a university education. I also read a flash fiction piece from my new collection (Unending Rooms) called Cabali Yau. The story uses the extra dimensions of String Theory and the philosophy of Schopenhauer to suggest that we unconsciously create the material reality within which we live. If you’re interested in reading the story, contact me and I’ll send you a copy.
