Drawing On Neruda
BorderSenses (2003)
  • Daniel Chacón, University of Texas, El Paso
Abstract
This is a non-fiction essay about how I developed an interest in drawing and painting simultaneously with my journey into the life and work of Chilean poet Pablo Neruda. I would read his poems and immediately want to draw some of the images that he expresses, such as “Nadie vio la luna que sangraba en mi boca.” I became focused on drawing, and since I drew mostly Neruda’s images, I got to know the poetry/the man on a deeper level than I had before.
