About Daniel Gurskis

Daniel Gurskis is Dean of The College of the Arts, home to the University’s John J. Cali School of Music, the School of Communication and Media, the Department of Theatre and Dance, and the Department of Art and Design.

Before arriving at Montclair State, Dean Gurskis was professor and chair of the Department of Film at Brooklyn College of the City University of New York and also served as special assistant to the president. At Brooklyn College, he has oversaw the creation of a new graduate school of cinema located at Steiner Studios, the largest film and television production facility outside of Los Angeles. In addition to his academic experience, Dean Gurskis has held creative and management positions in film, television, theatre, and advertising, and he has performed pro bono work in arts management. He is the author of numerous screenplays for film and television, and he received an Emmy Award in 1989 for James Stewart’s Wonderful Life.

Dean Gurskis holds a achelor of Arts in the History of American Ideas from the University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Fine Arts in Theatre Arts from Brandeis University.
