About Cynthia Manalo Rapaido

I have been in public education 26 years as a teacher and as an assistant principal at the high school level.
I graduated December 2011 with a Doctor of Education degree from the University of San Francisco School of Education with an emphasis in International and Multicultural Education. My doctoral research was titled Filipino American Educational Leaders in Northern California K-12 Public Schools: Challenges and Opportunities. My doctoral coursework included: Women of Color in Higher Education, Multiculturalism in a Global World, Cross-Cultural Literacy, Emotional Intelligence and Cultural Competency, International Perspective on Areas Studies Education, Filipino Americans in Higher Education, Multicultural Perspectives in Education, Human Rights in the Media, and African American Education in the United States. I also have a Master of Arts degree from the University of San Francsico School of Education, with an emphasis in Organization and Leadership. My thesis was titled: Integrated Science for San Jose Unified School District.
My research interests include the following: diversity sensitivity, multicultural competency, emotional intelligence, multiculturalism from other perspectives, social justice, critical pedagogy and the development of critical thinking skills, academic and cultural identity, and colonial mentality. I am also interested in researching leadership skills and comparative cultural leadership, and school climate.
