About Claire Pamment

Dr. Claire Pamment’s scholarship focuses on South Asian popular theatre and performance, with interests in marginality, transgendering, and Muslim cultures. Her present research explores marginalized performance repertoire through gender variant feminine identified communities known as hijras, or khwaja saras—a third gender term adopted in Pakistan. This spring, Pamment is collaborating with her theatre and dance colleagues on a new course, “...& Mary,” which will create a site-specific work staged in the historic Wren Building at William & Mary. Pamment enjoys creating opportunities for students to look outside of themselves, creatively and critically, to consider the experiences of others and what comprises the perspectives of those who are different from them
