This article presents a population based model of network analysis. The purpose of the model is to differentiate the effects of horizontal network positions on redistribution and resource acquisition. An empirical case within the venture capital industry is presented as evidence. Particular focus is given to the data and methods of analysis, such as historical periods and variables analyzed. The effects of venture capital firms on the two distinct events of going public and corporate acquisitions are discussed.
