Abstract
From the appearance of The Duty of Violence in 1968 to the present, Yambo Ouologuem has been one of Africa's most controversial writers. This volume gathers the most important essays on Ouologuem from critics on three continents, including Wole Soyinka, Kwame Anthony Appiah, Tunde Fatunde, Thomas Hale, Chris Dunton, Ann Elizabeth Willey, and Eric Sellin. It also includes the first interview with Yambo Ouologuem since he went into seclusion in the mid-1970's, Christopher Wise's "In Search of Yambo Ouologuem," as well as interviews with Umarian Tidjaniyya figures in Wise's "Yambo Ouologuem Among the Tidjaniyya" and "Interview With Al Hajj Sekou Tall."
