About Christopher Watson

Chris has served as Director of Sports Medicine and Head Athletic Trainer at Malone University (Canton, Ohio) since 2003. Chris, who is contracted out of Mercy Medical Center, earned a bachelor’s degree in Health Education and Athletic Training from Malone in 2001. He then received a master’s degree in Education from Ashland University in 2003. Chris is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the NSCA and a Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES) through the NASM.
In addition to his sports medicine responsibilities, Chris also teaches as an adjunct faculty member at The University of Akron in the College of Health Professions (Sport Science & Wellness Education).
In 2006, Chris had the opportunity to work at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs as a volunteer athletic trainer. During this time, he worked with the USA speed skating team, the women’s national volleyball team, the men’s and women’s national weightlifting teams, the men’s and women’s national wrestling teams, and the men’s national gymnastics team.
In 2007, Chris was appointed to the United States Track and Field (USATF) medical staff.  Chris has had the opportunity to work multiple USATF events and hopes to continue with the care of USATF athletes at future events.

In August 2016 Chris was hired by the NFL (National Football League) to work as an ATC spotter at home games played at FirstEnergy Stadium.
An ATC spotter's primary role is to observe play on the field and monitor the broadcast feed of that game to identify players who may potentially be injured on a play, with an emphasis on concussions and other head and neck injuries.
