About Christopher C. Martell

Christopher C. Martell is an assistant professor of social studies education. His research focuses on teacher development across the career span, including preservice teacher preparation, inservice professional development, and practitioner inquiry. He is particularly interested in social studies teachers in urban and multicultural contexts, and how they use historical inquiry, culturally sustaining pedagogy, and teach for social justice. His research has appeared in numerous peer-review journals. He is also the author of "Teaching History for Justice: Centering Activism in Students' Study of the Past" and the editor of the "Social Studies Teacher Education: Critical Issues and Current Perspectives."
