Christina Triezenberg completed her Ph.D. in English at Western Michigan University in 2014 and currently works as an adjunct professor in the Departments of English and Liberal Studies at Grand Valley State University, where she teaches undergraduate courses in American literature and human identity.
Her areas of specialization are American literature, with an emphasis on the literature of the American South and the lives and works of southern women writers, and modern British literature. However, she is also interested in American multicultural literature, contemporary American poetry, environmental writing and education, the history of the book and the development of public libraries, museum and material culture studies, and war as it is depicted in fiction, nonfiction and poetry. She is particularly interested in the impact of the American Civil War, World War I, and the Vietnam War, and much of her teaching, research, and writing has focused on the history and literature related to these conflicts.
Her dissertation, which traces the literary models that influenced Margaret Mitchell as she wrote her Pulitzer Prize-winning 1936 Civil War novel "Gone with the Wind," is entitled "Reading toward Scarlett: Tracing the Texts That Helped to Shape Margaret Mitchell's American Epic."
She is currently working on an article that explores the creative collaboration between the Virginia writer Mary Johnston and New England artist N.C. Wyeth, who illustrated her bestselling Civil War novels, The Long Roll (1911) and Cease Firing (1912), based on her examination of their correspondence.
