A Forecast of Database Usage during COVID
Georgia Libraries Conference (2021)
  • Chris Sharpe
Abstract
Dr. David Evans and Chris Sharpe at Kennesaw State University explored the use of time series analysis to study the impact the COVID-19 pandemic had on health science database usage. Will a major event result in an increase or decrease of expected usage numbers? The authors compared the forecasted numbers based on historical date with the actual usage statistics during the pandemic.  The first couple months of the pandemic had results higher than the forecast. The following months were similar or below the forecast. Using time series analysis to create a prediction of database usage can help with decision-making regarding the allocation of resources for online research and staff support of those activities.  The poster will include an introduction, brief literature review of similar studies, description of time series analysis, reporting of the results with graphs, and conclusion.
