About Chi-An Emhoff

As a scientist, Dr. Emhoff is interested in the role of physical activity in the prevention of chronic diseases from the standpoint of energy metabolism. Her research focuses on whole-body adaptations related to carbohydrate storage and utilization that come with endurance training. As an engineer, Dr. Emhoff is interested in the role of digital technology for health management and behavioral analytics. She is passionate about education and strives to pull in perspectives from various areas into her health and fitness courses. As a woman in academia, Dr. Emhoff volunteers as a mentor on Engineer Girl, a nationally prominent website encouraging young women to pursue science and engineering. During her free time, Dr. Emhoff enjoys traveling and taking on epic outdoor adventures with family and friends, involving some combination of running, cycling, mountain biking, swimming, hiking, surfing, paddle boarding, and rock climbing.
