About Cherrynn Kast Black

Dr. Cherryn Kast Black joined Boise State University in 2021, and served in the positions of graduate assistant and adjunct faculty with the College of Education, while additionally serving as a liaison to Lowell Elementary for student teachers & interns, before accepting a fulltime position as a clinical instructor with the College of Education in 2024. She received her M.Ed. in educational administration from Idaho State University in 2017, and her Ed.D. in curriculum and instruction (cognate: school improvement) here at Boise State in 2023. Dr. Kast Black's research is focused on the longitudinal impact of systematic knowledge-building curriculum on elementary school students’ vocabulary development. She has a rich background as an educator and as a school leader, with experience teaching students in every K-12 grade – in public, private, charter, and virtual homeschool settings. As a faculty member with Boise State's Department of Education, her students have spoken highly of her teaching style and approaches to learning. Her present career goals are to use her knowledge and experience to train pre-service teachers, as well as to investigate ways to improve early elementary vocabulary development and knowledge-building in rural settings.
