About Chee-Ming Ting PhD

I am currently a Senior Lecturer with the Center for Biomedical Engineering (CBE) at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Malaysia. I'm also affiliated with the Department of Biotechnology and Medical Engineering, Faculty of Biosciences and Medical Engineering (FBME), UTM.
I received my PhD degree in Mathematics (Statistics), M.Eng. degree in electrical engineering and B.Eng. in electrical-electronics engineering from UTM, in 2012, 2007 and 2005 respectively.
My research focuses on the development of statistical signal processing and time series methods for analyzing high-dimensional, non-stationary, non-Gaussian biomedical time series data, particularly neurological signals with applications to brain connectivity analysis and brain-computer interface.
I have been a research officer at CBE, UTM working on hidden Markov model (HMM) based speech recognition. My PhD and post-doctoral studies focused on general state-space modeling and estimation methods for neurological signal processing, particularly under non-Gaussianity, non-linearity and continuous-time. I visited the Dept. of Electrical and Electronic Eng, Univ. of Melbourne and Center for Speech Technology Research (CSTR), Univ. of Edinburgh respectively in 2014 and 2011, for modeling of fMRI signals and development of HMM-based Malay speech synthesizer. In 2015, I was a visiting researcher to the Dept. of Statistics, Uni. California Irvine, developing models for high-dimensional neuroimaging data. In 2016 and 2017, I visited the Statistics Group, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology and delivered a series of short courses on state-space modeling of brain signals. I'm currently a member of the IEEE Signal Process. Society.
