Abstract

The deinstitutionalization movement has generated considerable interest among service providers regarding provision of more normalized environments. Simply establishing small residences within a neighborhood does not appear to be sufficient to desegregate mentally retarded adults. The utilization of age-appropriate, commercially available leisure pursuits as a vehicle for facilitating integration of mentally retarded adults within the community is proposed.
