Abstract

Participants rated the testimony (from an auto accident) of a Hispanic accented speaker, a Middle Eastern accented speaker, or a transcript on accuracy, credibility, deceptiveness, and guilt. Multivariate analysis of variance revealed significant main effects for condition and gender. Accented speakers were rated more positively than a transcript, especially by women.
