Distortion of Fossils in Shales
Journal of Paleontology (1978)

Abstract
The interpretation of deformation and distortion in rocks is well documented, particularly from careful studies of structures and petrofabric patterns in metamorphics rocks. However, because many sediments and sedimentary rocks are not sufficiently altered during diagenesis and compaction to exhibit typical metamorphic structures or minerals, the amount of deformation is not readily apparent.
