About Chad Painter

Dr. Painter is an assistant professor for the Department of Communication. He is guided by the general question, "What is the normative role of the media?" To answer this question, he focuses on the portrayal of journalists in popular culture; media depictions of gender, race, disability, and sexual orientation; and the historical and contemporary role of the alternative press in the U.S. His research focuses on media ethics, diversity studies, entertainment studies, sports communication, history, and new media. He currently serves as the vice head/programming chair for the Media Ethics Division of AEJMC, the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.
