Abstract
Smartphone technology is an emerging phenomenon in developing nations. Millions of people will access the internet for the first time via smartphone. For entrepreneurs, this technology has the potential to reshape opportunities and overcome barriers to growth by significantly increasing connectivity within and between the organizations they create. Entrepreneurs in developing nations face unique barriers: among the most common are poor infrastructure, inefficient institutions, lack of access to capital and lack of education. In this exploratory study, we examine how a sample of entrepreneurs from Ghana are using smartphones in resource deficient contexts, to overcome barriers and develop vibrant business organizations.
