About Cresantia Frances Koya Vaka'uta

My research focuses on Education for Sustainable Development in the Pacific. I am particularly interested in Educating for Sustainable Pacific Societies in and beyond the 21st Century in the context of small island developing states I am currently working on three main areas of interest – Citizenship education, teacher education and the role of Pacific arts and culture in education. Recognizing the impact of continued silencing of authentic Pacific voice and experience, I am especially concerned with indigenous epistemologies and their contribution to enabling a deeper understanding of “survival and continuity” in nurturing “sustainable societies”. I am also interested in working with local communities, NGOs and civil societies as well as governmental agencies to better contextualize the constraints and challenges of the 21st Century Pacific.
