About Cathy J. King, RN, DNP, CCRN

Cathy King, RN, DNP,CCRN, has been a RN for 30 years and a faculty member for 10. Her clinical areas of expertise are critical care/trauma nursing. She has been a faculty member at St. Petersburg College, College of Nursing since 1998 where she was first introduced to one of the earliest models of the human patient simulator (HPS) . She has been an advocate for the use of simulation in nursing education ever since 1998! She has used the high-fidelity HPS with students in a wide variety of ways over the years. Most recently she completed her doctoral studies from Case Western Reserve University where she and 3 other colleagues (Drs. Beverly Hindenlang, Sarah Moseley, and Patrick Kuritz) researched faculty perceptions of the human patient simulator in nursing education after observing the limited use of this teaching strategy. Dr. King has participated in poster presentations of the research findings.
Dr. King has continued to be involved in the nursing profession through her activities with the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) as a past-president, the Florida Nurses Association (FNA), the National Student Nurses Association as a Faculty Advisor, the National League for Nursing and served as Chair on the Evaluation and Student Affairs Committees within the College of Nursing at St. Petersburg College.
