About Catherine A. Hansman

Catherine A. Hansman is Professor of Adult Learning and Development(ALD) at Cleveland State University. She directed and was the program coordinator of the graduate programs in Adult Learning and Development from 1998 to 2007. She is a Cyril O. Houle Emerging Scholars in Adult and Continuing Education Scholarship recipient.Dr. Hansman's research interests include issues of gender, race and class, adult learning in various contexts, learning in mentoring relationships, and communities of practice in higher education and workplace contexts. Her research interests are reflected in the two books she has edited, Understanding and Negotiating the Political Landscape of Adult Education (with Peggy Sissel), and Critical Perspectives on Mentoring: Trends and Issues, and in the invited book chapters and articles published in various journals, such as Adult Education Quarterly, Adult Learning, Journal of Adult Basic Education, and Journal of Excellence on College Teaching. She served as chair of the Commission of Professors of Adult Education, from 2004-2006 and also served on the Board of Directors of the American Association for Adult and Continuing Education (AAACE). She chaired the 2009 annual conference of AAACE as President-Elect, and she currently is the President of AAACE.
