Abstract
OER is part of a larger movement in scholarly communications to make scholarship and educational resources more easily accessible. It's an incredible movement, but faculty, instructors, librarians, instructional designers need to consider the institutional, financial and cultural contexts in which we curate, create and build OER into our teaching. In addition to addressing these topics, we need to discuss and define the value of this work and how it is recognized and acknowledged. Finally, let us examine the role of libraries and librarians in this work and explore the complementary role of non-OER collections available to students through libraries.
