About Casey Keck

Dr. Casey Keck joined the faculty of the English Department at Boise State University in 2011, after four years as a faculty member in the MA TESOL program at San Francisco State University. She has a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics and an M.A. in Teaching English as a Second Language, both from Northern Arizona University. Dr. Keck's areas of expertise include corpus linguistics, second language acquisition, and academic writing development.

Dr. Keck's research has focused on developing computer-based methods of discourse analysis that can be used to analyze large collections of academic language. She is particularly interested in investigating the linguistic strategies that individuals use to communicate effectively in academic contexts and exploring how this research might inform the teaching of academic literacy skills in U.S. tertiary institutions.

Dr. Keck is also committed to developing the expertise of English language teachers worldwide, through the dissemination of research, the development of language teaching resources, and the training of language educators. Her most recent work in this area includes a book co-authored with YouJin Kim, titled Pedagogical Grammar, and a funded research project which aims to support elder refugees in their efforts to acquire English and obtain U.S. citizenship.
