Abstract
This new series aims to address the questions and concerns of two of the most important events of modern life--the tragedy of 9/11 and the "shock and awe" of the second Gulf War. Each volume analyzes key aspects of political, cultural, and economic issues in the Iraq conflict through the essays of foreign policy experts, theorists, and first hand witnesses. Ten original essays discuss why people are willing to kill one another on the battlefield, or--in the case of terrorists--anywhere. Questions addressed include what are the limitations of mainstream media? How can it be that mainstream media sometimes loses sight of impartiality? The 10 essays in Culture Clash explore the cultural aspects of the war on terrorism and the second Gulf War, including America's lack of understanding about Islamic nations. The selections, authored by college and university professors, address complex economic, political, and sociological issues that most young adult readers will find very challenging.
