Abstract

Catholic schools in the USA and in the UK share many of the same characteristics of post Second World War society: demographic shifts toward wider diversity, the movement of many families away from the cities and their ethnic enclaves to the suburbs, economic prosperity that has led to expanding choices of lifestyle and leisure activities, the explosion of information access, communication technologies, and the presumed weakening of Catholic `identity’. The Contemporary Catholic School: Context, Identity and Diversity contributes to the current conversation about Catholic schooling for children and adolescents in both the US and British cultures.
