About Dr. MA, Hok Ka, Carol

Dr. MA Hok Ka, Carol was awarded a W.T. Chan Fellowship to study and practice Service-Learning (SL) at the University of California at Los Angeles and was also awarded a Lingnan Foundation Scholarship to complete a research internship at the National Primary Health Care Centre, University of Manchester, UK. Carol is the founding members of OSL at Lingnan University and has supported the University to institutionalize service-learning as part of its Liberal Arts Education. She is also the General Secretary of the Joint Higher Education Network on Service-Learning in Hong Kong and the Service-Learning Asia Network (SLAN) members of which come from prestige universities from the Region (e.g. International Christian University in Japan). She is a member of the board of the Directors for both International Center for Service-Learning in Teachers Education and the International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement. Since 2006, she has organized three very successful biannual Regional Conferences on SL with her team . She is leading different projects in Asia, among these are ‘Cross-Border Service-Learning Summer Institute’ in Asia sponsored by Lingnan Foundation and the 1st project focus on ‘Promoting Service-Learning in China’ sponsored by United Board. She believes by engaging different Universities through SL, it can make to local and global communities a better one. Recognizing her capabilities, , she has been appointed by Hong Kong SAR Government to different committees this includes being a member of Independent Police Complaints Council (IPCC), a supervisor of the Lingnan Dr. Chung Wing Kwong Memorial Secondary School; a member of Tuen Mun District Coordinating committee on Promotion of Volunteer Service; a committee member of Promotion Civic Education, HKSAR, etc.

在全球一體化的發展趨勢下,多元發展、多方合作的機會迅即增長,新一代領袖需具備卓越的共通能力,以應付瞬息萬變的社會,掌握日新月異的資訊和資源推動社區發展。作為教育工作者,我們深信以服務研習作為平台來培養學生正確的價值觀和國民教育是首要任務,同時要創造靈活多變的學習環境讓學生發掘自我。嶺南大學服務研習處與和富社會企業於2009年攜手推行「和富領袖網絡系列 - 星級服務研習『嶺』袖之旅」計劃,發揮創新思維,進行領袖培訓及國民教育,致力打造具魅力、富責任感和民族情懷的新一代領袖,讓他們在社區不同的角落發光發亮,以生命影響生命。就在此時,我們遇上了蔡建祥總警司和李啟明先生。他們除了是地區的領袖,更是發掘滇緬戰爭的熱心人,安排和帶領一眾『嶺』袖走訪雲南騰衝,把歷史呈現,觸動他們的愛國心,喚醒他們的民族情懷。領袖的功能和角色隨著時間、環境和場合而轉變,《我眼中的老兵》就是嶺大學生為承傳歷史適時編寫的故事冊,將他們與現居雲南及香港的老兵交流後的所見所感透過文字與讀者分享,冀盼更多人關愛老兵,認同他們的無私的貢獻。在此感謝和富社會企業的贊助,讓學生能夠參與這個不一樣的領袖培訓計劃,經歷這個觸動心靈的旅程,於計劃完結後繼續關心及定期探訪老兵。同時亦感謝嶺南大學人文學科研究中心提供意見及支援,讓本故事冊得以順利出版。我寄望一眾 『嶺』袖能延續前人努力不懈的精神,感染更多人關心古今國情。

「二人三足」鄉郊長者探訪計劃暨鄉郊長者關懷行動 : 鄉郊長者的需要及生活質素調查報告書

本計劃期望能促使長者享有一個「積極樂頤年」,以提升其生活質素。計劃會透過連續性的探訪及兩次大型參觀活動,爲長者提供參與社會的機會。在探訪期間,義工會因應自己的才能及長者的興趣,爲長者安排一些學習班,如:英文、魔術及手工藝等,鼓勵他們終身學習。 另外,義工會透過閒聊的方式,了解長者的需要,從而提供相關的轉介;義工同時會關心長者的健康狀況,如:教導長者如何預防流行性感冒、叮囑長期病患者定時覆診等,以保持身體健康。 本計劃的目的可歸納爲以下四個: 透過連續性的探訪,爲屯門鄉郊的獨居和雙老長者送上關懷 在探訪過程中,利用問卷及閒談方式探討鄉郊長者的需要,並提供適當的支援/轉介 爲長者安排參觀嶺南大學及香港國際機場,鼓勵鄉郊長者參與社會 通過一系列的探訪和參觀活動,促進長者和青少年(嶺南大學學生義工)的溝通,從而建立跨代支援網絡 是次的調查主要希望 探討鄉郊長者的需要; 量度鄉郊長者的整體生活質素的轉變; 評估長者和青少年的相互觀感的轉變;及 了解他們對區內設施的意見和使用平安鐘的習慣。
