The Persian Velvets at Rosenborg
(1995)
  • Carol Bier, The Textile Museum
Abstract

The first comprehensive view of Persian velvets, examining weave structure, technology, and archival sources (with a contribution by Mogens Bencard), this book explores figural and floral velvets produced in Safavid Iran. Comprising one of the greatest technical achievements in textile production prior to the industrial age, these textiles are housed in Copenhagen's Rosenborg Palace and represent cultural exchanges and economic ventures that date from the diplomatic history of the17th century.
