Abstract
As an historian of Islamic art in the Department of Art History at the Maryland Institute College of Art, I am continually learning as I endeavor to teach students about pattern. This visual presentation explores the results of a single assignment that pertains to coloring a linear plate reproduced in Jules Bourgoin's classic work, Arabic Geometrical Patterns and Design, a Dover Reprint based on his original documentation in the 1870s of Islamic architectural monuments in Cairo and Damascus.
