About Calvin Burney

Calvin L. Burney Jr. is a doctoral candidate in the Educational Leadership Studies and Policy program at Bowling Green State University. Calvin's research interests include: gaining an understanding of the impact of mentoring on at-risk African American males, student retention strategies and initiatives, school leadership, and student academic achievement. Burney believes that all children are capable of learning. Calvin enacts his belief each day where he currently works with students identified by the University as academically at-risk providing a holistic approach to student improvement, which combines both academic and emotional support.
