Abstract

In this paper the authors present findings from a review of historical and contemporary research on the persistence of African American administrators at predominantly white institutions in the United States. The questions posed in this paper: (1) What is known about the presence of African American administrators at PWIs? (2) What theories explain how privileged group hierarchies have shaped the persistence of African American administrators at PWIs? (3) What areas of practice regarding the persistence of African American administrators need to be explored through further research?
