Abstract
"THE GOLDEN EAGLE (Aquila chrysaetos) population in North America is declining (Hoffman and Smith 2003, Smith et al. 2008). This species is enigmatic, indicative of broad conservation value (Sergio et al. 2005), and, for the most part, poorly known. Populations west of the Mississippi River in the lower 48 states number approximately 21,000–35,000 individuals (Good et al. 2004, 2007). However, this estimate is based on limited sampling effort and on broad-scale extrapolation to unsampled habitats, and it does not include Canadian or Alaskan birds..."
