Abstract
Certain conditions support cooperative learning in Tier 1 general education settings that increases academic outcomes for diverse exceptional learners: heterogeneous groups, assigned roles, clear objectives, teaching social skills, and monitoring students (Stevens & Slavin, 1995). One critical component yet to be examined for diverse learners is group processing -how well group members work collaboratively to achieve the goals of learning (Johnson & Johnson, 1994). Research touts the use of rubrics to assess student group processes, but this is typically done by teachers giving feedback to students (Gillies& Boyle, 2010). Diverse learners need structured and explicit approaches to foster their engagement. Our study explored the use of video as a self-reflection tool to help diverse exceptional students evaluate their growth in collaboration with others, and to set goals for improvement.
