The State of Participatory Budgeting
The White House Participatory Budgeting Gathering (2016)
  • Brian Wampler, Boise State University
Abstract
Professor Brian Wampler presented rigorous international data showing how participatory budgeting reduces infant mortality, leads to stronger health services, and increases the number of community organizations.

“We’ve been able to identify that when cities in Brazil adopt public participation, there are a host of positive benefits, such as improved infant mortality rates, poverty alleviation” and other marks of a healthy democracy, Wampler explained.
