About Brett Bayles

Dr. Bayles is an assistant professor of Global Public Health in the School of Health and Natural Sciences. He has a completed postdoctoral work in spatial epidemiology from the University of California at Riverside and in global environmental change from the University of Minnesota. He holds a doctorate and master’s degree in public health with a focus on biosecurity and emerging infectious diseases.

Since coming to Dominican in 2016, Dr. Bayles has developed curriculum in global public health and has taught a number of courses in the program, including: epidemiology, senior capstone, and global environmental health. In addition, he has developed a planetary health research group aimed at fostering student-faculty research opportunities around emerging infectious disease epidemiology. His current research interests are focused on quantifying the linkages between changes to the environment and hotspots of emerging vector-borne disease.
