(2019)

  • Maurice Clarett
Abstract
The autobiography of a former student, we worked together for 3 years to produce this narrative of conquest, catastrophe, and redemption. Maurice was the high school player of the year as a senior in Youngstown, Ohio, then led the 2002 OSU Buckeyes to the national championship. He was kicked out of school the next year though, returned to a life in the streets, and ended up in prison where he went through extensive integrated cognitive behavior therapy. He has now founded two social service agencies--in Youngstown and Columbus--and travels the country as an inspiring and captivating public speaker. All proceeds from the sale of the book will go towards creating an inpatient treatment facility for high school and college athletes in need of mental health support services.
