RDA: Loss of GMD and Changes Regarding Type and FormatLibrary Services Faculty and Staff Publications
Document TypeConference Presentation
AbstractThe pending decision to move to RDA is still a few months away, but some libraries have already begun following RDA guidelines. AACR2’s general material designation (GMD) is not perpetuated in RDA guidelines. Instead, RDA records define the content of the expression, the medium of the manifestation, and the carrier of the manifestation. This session will discuss the changes that will occur with RDA vocabulary, the issues related to display of the vocabulary particularly as it relates to special formats, and the effect this change may have on the display in the Aleph OPAC and in MnPALS Plus.
