Since the turning point of this 21th century, from the vantage point of development of philosophy in the wide-ranging international setting, contemporary studies of Chinese philosophy have two systematic characteristics: one is the important role played by analytic methodology (understood broadly); the other is the significant development of comparative-philosophy methodology (emphasizing cross-tradition engagement through jointly concerned issues and philosophical interpretation toward world philosophy) both in theory and in practice. The theme of this anthology volume is to investigate how these two strategic methodological approaches can constructively complementary in further enhancing contemporary studies of Chinese philosophy through cross-tradition engagement for the sake of jointly contributing to the development of world philosophy; it sets out to show that, in such studies, analytic methodology would be blind without the adequate guidance of comparative- philosophy methodology, while comparative-philosophy methodology would be empty without analytic methodology that subjects philosophical studies to mutual understanding, being open to criticism, and adherence to rudimentary norms of reflective studies.
