Continuing Crisis in Nepal
South Asia Monitor (2003)
  • Bidisha Biswas, Western Washington University
Abstract
Peace talks between the Nepalese government and Maoist rebels collapsed in August 2003 and the tiny Himalayan kingdom is facing further turmoil. Negotiations appear to be the only solution to the protracted conflict between the rebels and the government. The level of international interest in Nepal's crisis is higher than ever before. As a result of the country's tangled political relationships, however, the prospects for successful talks seem poor in the short term.
