About Bhiksha Raj

Prof. Bhiksha Raj is a Visiting Professor in the Natural Language Department at Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI).

Biography
 
Prof Raj has joined MBZUAI as a Visiting Professor of Natural Language Processing. He is a tenured professor of computer science at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). He was at Compaq (Cambridge) Research Lab until 2001. From 2001 to 2008, he led speech research at Mitsubishi Electric Research Labs in Cambridge MA. Since 2008, he has been a full-time faculty member at CMU.
 
During his career, Prof Raj has made pioneering contributions to three broad areas of research: speech and audio processing, privacy, and security in speech processing, and most recently, deep learning and AI. He holds more than 30 patents in these areas, is co-editor of three technical books and has published more than 400 research papers on these topics. He is a fellow of the IEEE.
 
Prof Raj has served on advisory boards or been advisor for several multi-national companies, including Callminer Inc., Amazon Inc., etc., in addition to various start-ups. He has also consulted for Walt Disney Research, Adobe Research, US Navy, US Air Force, the Federal Aviation Authority, Mitsubishi Electric Research Labs and others. He has co-founded two (now-dissolved) start-ups.
