Abstract
The purpose of this workshop is to explore the intersection of research paradigms, the research process and their connections to energetic chakras.  Research paradigms – positivist, postpositivist, critical/ideological, and constructivist – have differing epistemological, ontological, and  methodological assumptions that influence the purpose of inquiry, values, ethics, and voice of the researcher and provide a framework for conducting research.  Historically, research conducted from a positivist paradigm has been highly valued and even considered to be the “gold standard” in healthcare.  However, as paradigms in health and healing are shifting, so are paradigms of research.  We believe it is critical for researchers to not only identify but also clearly articulate their research paradigm and consider possible connections to the seven energy centers in the body called chakras (root, sacral, solar plexus, heart, throat, third eye, and crown).  In addition, we see connections between a holistic research process (Discernment, Disciplined Inquiry, Design & Develop, Do, Describe, Document, and Disseminate) and the seven chakras based on our own lived experience of conducting and teaching research.  During this workshop, we ask participants engage in self-reflection about their own research paradigms, their experience of their research process, and their knowledge of their own chakras to enhance a personal awareness and discover for themselves possible connections.  Finally, we invite participants to make an action plan based on their own research experience and knowledge of their individual chakra system that will contribute to healthcare transformation through the integration of holism into practice.
