Abstract
This chapter will focus on the motivations that draw youths into gang involvement as indicated by prior research. Furthermore, this chapter will consider how "push" and "pull" frameworks might be useful in understanding how individuals continue gang involvement in prison. Understanding these mediating mechanisms in the transition from youth street gangs to adult prison gangs has important implications for criminal justice practitioners and researchers alike.
