Abstract

Using historical analysis and ethnographic research conducted in New Providence, Bahamas in 2005, this article focuses on how the Bahamian state exploits Haitian labor, how contemporary Bahamian identity relies on the construction of a repugnant Haitian “Other” and how the progeny of Haitians in the Bahamas are rendered stateless by Bahamian law.
