Chapter One concerns Wilhelm Stenhammar and his devotion to classicism that helped establish a modern current. The nationalist composers, Wilhelm Peterson-Berger, Hugo Alfven, Kurt Atterberg, and Ture Rangstrom are discussed in Chapter Two. Chapter Three covers late-romantic composers Elfrida Andree and Otto Olsson. Part II contains chapters on early modern and mid-century neoclassical composers Hilding Rosenberg, Gosta Nystroem, Dag Wiren and Lars-Erick Larsson. In Part III, Karl-Birger Blomdahl, Sven-Erik Back, and Ingvar Lidholm. The final part includes chapters devoted to late-modern composers Allan Pettersson, Torsten Nilsson, and Bengt Hambraeus, and postmodern works of Lars Johan Werle and Daniel Bortz.
