Abstract

Berkeley, CA, September 30, 2008 – Society and peer-reviewed publisher and software developer, The Berkeley Electronic Press (bepress), announced today the appointment of Maria Lopes as Director of Library Sales. She will report to Barbara Kaplan, bepress’s Vice President of Business Development, and will be based on the East Coast.

Maria comes to bepress with ten years of international sales experience. Most recently at Wiley-Blackwell, Maria was responsible for all aspects of sales and marketing in Latin America, including consortia and agent agreements. Previously, as Academic Sector Business Manager at Emerald Publishing, Maria successfully managed sales across Latin America, the Caribbean, and Southern Europe.

Barbara Kaplan said, “Maria’s extensive domestic and international relationships will give bepress a ‘jump start’ in these markets, which have already shown great interest in bepress journals and the library-friendly bepress model.”

Maria’s appointment reflects the growth and depth of bepress’s sales effort internationally, and continues bepress’s commitment to bring high-quality journals at sustainable prices to libraries around the world.

Maria is fluent in Portuguese, Spanish and French, and received her business degree at the University of Algarve in Portugal.
