Abstract

Today every single person in Turkey and abroad has been well aware of the transformation that Turkey has been going through since the late 1980s. As known, in 1980, Turkey witnessed a fully-fledged military coup which closed down all the political parties, trade unions and civil society organizations for the time-being. Ironically, the oppressive policies and the undemocratic tools which were employed by the military elites could not prevent Turkish politics from having a considerable degree of democratization and liberalization.
