About Basant Pradhan

Basant Pradhan, MD, works in the Cooper University Health System, Camden, New Jersey as a faculty in psychiatry & pediatrics where he also serves as the founding director of the Magnetic Brain Stimulation (TMS), and the Yoga and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (Y-MBCT) programs. Pradhan is a meditation practitioner, inventor, researcher, mentor and writer. He had a few years of monastic training before he entered an immersed career in neuropsychology and neuropsychiatry. His work mainly involves translational clinical research that combines cutting edge medication treatments with psychological therapies for treatment refractory conditions. His pioneering research on cognitive neuroscience & evidence based mindfulness therapies (including the new TIMBER therapy for refractory PTSD) have received grant awards from organizations like the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation (formerly NARSAD), and the National Institute of Health (NIH) etc. He is a fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (APA) & is an executive member of the Group for the Advancement of Psychiatry (GAP) and the National Caucus on Integrative Psychiatry. Prior to coming to the US, he received post-graduate training in neuropsychiatry from the prestigious Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER) in India. In the US, he trained further in psychiatry & in child psychiatry at the Albert Einstein Medical Center & the Thomas Jefferson University respectively, both in Philadelphia. Pradhan has published widely, he serves as a guest editor and advisor to the editorial boards of many journals, and has received numerous awards, both in India and in the US including the Marquis Who's Who in America.
