Successful project teams are comprised of individuals committed to accomplishing their project's goals. This article discusses several techniques that executives and project managers can use both to inspire project teams and to assemble teams comprised of the type of individuals who will do what it takes to help the team realize the project. It examines several methods that project managers and executives can use to inspire their project teams and to secure the project team's commitment, methods such as using a shared vision as a key to excellence. It also explores the 20th century's evolution of research on human motivation. It then discusses two keys to achieving a successful project outcome: amalgamating human intelligence and rewarding positive behavior. It concludes by outlining five methods that project managers can use to generate--among their project team's members--excitement for and commitment to the project.
